Work With Us - Events Assistant
About Mackenzie & George
Mackenzie & George is a British leather goods brand specialising in handmade belts, bags and accessories, all made in England.
Alongside our online business, we attend a number of leading country, equestrian and lifestyle shows across the UK. These events are an important part of the brand and give us the opportunity to meet customers in person and showcase our products.
The Role
We are looking for an Events Assistant to join our show team.
This role involves travelling to country and equestrian shows to help set up, run and pack down the Mackenzie & George stand. During events you will assist customers, help maintain displays and ensure the stand runs smoothly throughout the day.
Shows are lively environments and can be very busy, so we are looking for someone with a mature attitude, good common sense and the confidence to take initiative within a team.
The ideal person will naturally look around, see where help is needed and step in without needing constant direction.
Key Responsibilities
-
Assist with setting up and dismantling the stand at events
-
Provide friendly and knowledgeable customer service
-
Help customers choose products and answer questions
-
Process sales and take bespoke orders using the EPOS system
-

-
Monitor stock levels and assist with merchandising
-
Support colleagues and help ensure the stand runs efficiently during busy periods
-
Assist with packing, organisation and general event logistics
Representing the Brand
At shows, our team are the face of Mackenzie & George.
Customers often meet us for the first time at an event, so the way we interact with visitors matters. We are looking for people who are personable and confident speaking with customers, and who take pride in representing a British brand in a professional and friendly way. We strive to provide an inclusive comfortable and honest experience on our stand, and our sales team need to be able to continue the 5* customer service we provide in the studio/workshop.
You don’t need to be a pushy salesperson — the best team members are approachable, observant and happy helping customers find the right product for them. We take great pride in what we do, and the quality of our products and our unique timeless designs should make it a simple task to sell.
Ideal Candidate Profile
This role suits someone who enjoys being busy and working as part of a small team.
You will likely be someone who:
-
Has a mature, practical attitude to work
-
Learns quickly and picks things up easily
-
Naturally uses their initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do
-
Is observant and able to spot where help is needed
-
Is friendly and confident speaking with customers
-
Is practical and happy helping with physical tasks
- Current M&G customers preferred, who have an understanding of what we do
A Note About Show Life
Country shows are great fun, but they are also long and physically active days.
Typical show days can involve:
-
Early starts
-
Being on your feet for most of the day
-
Lifting boxes and setting up displays
-
Working outdoors in different weather conditions
-
Busy periods where the stand is consistently full of customers that all need your attention
Applicants should feel comfortable working in this type of environment and being part of a hard-working team during busy events.
Pay & Accommodation
We offer a daily rate of £120 + substenance allowance/provided and mileage paid. Significant product discounts also included.
Historically most of our events team stay onsite at the shows, in their own accomodation (i.e; tent, campervan, caravan, car tent etc) or inside the marquee. This avoids the difficulties getting on and off site at the beginning and end of the day. All shows have toilets and showers available onsite.
This Role May Not Be Right For You If…
-
You are primarily looking for an opportunity to grow your personal social media following
-
You prefer step-by-step instructions for every task rather than using your initiative
-
You are not comfortable with long, busy days on your feet
-
You are not willing to help with physical tasks such as lifting boxes and setting up displays
Our show team works best with people who are reliable, proactive and ready to get stuck in.
